Heating Your Cincinnati Home With a Condensing Boiler -- How It Works

Winter is right around the corner, which means heating Cincinnati homes may become pricier. One way to possibly cut down on heating costs is to use a condensing boiler to heat your home. Condensing boilers use water vapor in the system to preheat the water that's coming into the system, which then works to heat the home. Since the water is preheated, the boiler uses less gas to get the water to a specific temperature.

Condensing boilers have several characteristics that make them appealing alternatives to traditional, non-condensing boilers.

  • Environmentally friendly - Condensing boilers emit less carbon dioxide than non-condensing boilers. A condensing boiler could save tons of carbon emissions that your house may otherwise release into the environment.
  • Energy efficient - Condensing boilers can be up to 30 percent more energy efficient than non-condensing boilers because less gas is needed to heat the water to the desired temperature.
  • Lower fuel bills - Since the condensing unit uses less gas to heat water than a non-condensing boiler, you may see that efficiency reflected in your gas bill. Of course, gas bills aren't just affected by gas use. They're also influenced by the price of gas.
  • Enhanced efficiency - Condensing boilers are designed to have extra-large heat exchangers, which increase the amount of heat that's transferred to the boiler from the burner.
  • Compact size - Condensing boilers come in a variety of sizes to fit any space. Some are compact enough to fit in a small closet or a cupboard.
