Waiting To Schedule A Fall Tune-Up? Why You Shouldn't Wait Until Winter

Professional preventative maintenance should be done at least once a year, and twice if possible. One of the best times for a furnace tune-up is just before fall. Regular maintenance extends the lifespan of your equipment and keeps it running efficiently. If you've been considering scheduling preventative maintenance, don't wait for winter to do it. Scheduling early has several key advantages that will save you both energy and money.

Why you shouldn't wait for winter to schedule an appointment:

  • Increasing your equipment's efficiency before you need to use it will save more on utility bills.
  • Fall and winter are busy for heating and cooling contractors. Scheduling early ensures you don't need to wait very long for service.
  • Your HVAC technician can identify problems before they escalate into larger, more expensive ones.
  • You'll have more time to schedule any needed repairs if you have your tune-up done before the cold temperatures set in.

You can also increase the efficiency of your furnace on your own by regularly changing the air filter, which can become clogged with dust and other debris. Keep the area around your furnace clear as well so that less debris builds up in the air ducts and filter. A professional HVAC contractor will be able to do a more thorough inspection and knows what to look for, but you should let the contractor know if you suspect your system a specific problem with your system.

What a typical tune-up includes:

  • Inspection of electrical wiring and any other electrical components to check for faults
  • Inspection and lubrication of moving parts, such as the blower motor
  • Inspection of the system's cycling process to make sure it is running properly
  • Inspection of combustion chamber for cracks or other damage

Getting the maintenance done right gives you the peace of mind that comes with knowing you won't have a major furnace breakdown over the winter and your equipment won't be consuming excessive amounts of energy.
